COSCO Forms Yangtze Shipping Development Strategy

Xu Lirong, General Manager of COSCO Container Lines, has recently expressed that his corporation will get the largest or the second largest share of container transport at all ports along the Yangtze River, and that goods from along the Yangtze River will account for 50% of the total containers it will carry at Shanghai Port. ¡¡¡¡ Yangtze Shipping Development Strategy¡± that is characterised as being ¡°large scale with big input and great development¡±, and has made the Yangtze barging feeder line an extension of its artery line within the area, hoping that the feeder line will be able to meet the needs of its artery line vessels in transport service.

¡¡¡¡ To seize the Yangtze container transport market, COSCO Container Lines has adopted flexible charging policies and marketing tactics, and has established shipping agencies at a number of ports along the river such as those in Nanjing, Jiaxing, Taicang, Nantong, Sichuan, Wuhu, Zhenjiang and Zhangjiakou etc. It has thereby made many big customers (like Changhong, Citroan, Siwei and Sharp) its basic freight sources and realised a fast growth in this respect. According to statistics, from January to August this year, COSCO accomplished a total container transport of 92,534 TEUs along the river, up 40.2% from the year earlier period.
